Cristiano Ronaldo deserved the Ballon d’Or as a reward for how hard he works, Hugo Viana has said.
Viana spoke to Marca about his good friend and compatriot, telling the newspaper that Ronaldo’s dedication and hard work is what has delivered his success.
“[Ronaldo is] a unique player and he deserves the Ballon d’Or,” the former Valencia midfielder said.
“Cristiano has won his recognition fairly and I see him in good shape. He’s having a fantastic season.
“He’s a very complete player and a total professional. He also has the desire to be the best and that means he always does what he needs to do. He’s got the lot.”
Viana, now playing for Dubai-based Al Ahli, added that the Ronaldo some observers believe they know is far from the reality.
“He’s a very normal guy, more so than other people might think.
“The key to his success is he has a positive family atmosphere around him that gives him the peace he needs to be able to play his football at the very highest level.
“I’ve read in the Press that he wants to win the Champions League and I hope he does.
“He’s playing fantastically well and I’m sure he’ll win something with Madrid this season.”
