Ronaldo: I didn’t deserve ban

Cristiano Ronaldo has said he shouldn’t have been banned for three games after being sent off against Athletic Bilbao.

The Real Madrid forward was speaking after his side’s 6-1 win over Schalke in the Champions League, having sat out the last three domestic League games.

Ronaldo has now served his suspension and will return for Los Blancos on Sunday against Atletico Madrid – but Ronaldo feels he shouldn’t have been banned in the first place.

“What’s happened has happened. I was frustrated, because I didn’t deserve a three-match ban,” Ronaldo told reporters after the final whistle.

“We’re motivated, that’s the main word. We’re Madrid, and we’ll try to win at the Calderon.”

Ronaldo scored twice in the Veltins-Arena, as did Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. Ronaldo spoke highly of his own performance and that of his teammates.

“I think that the team has played good matches this season, and this is another,” Ronaldo continued.

“Schalke weren’t at their best. We’re happy, because we’re close to the next round.

“The three of us [Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo] played well.

“The whole team played well: from Iker [Casillas] to the midfielders to the defenders, everyone did their job. We’re very happy with ourselves, because we played very well.

“The [Schalke] goalkeeper did well. But my teammates help me and in the second half I was able to score two goals.”
