Barcelona will this summer speak to Javier Mascherano about extending his stay at Camp Nou.
Mascherano has been a long-time target of Rafael Benitez at Napoli and the Argentina international played under Benitez at Liverpool.
But Barca are desperate to keep Mascherano, Mundo Deportivo reports, and consider the 29-year-old a vital part of the current team.
Mascherano’s current contract expires in 2016 but Barca want to ensure the player, who turns 30 in June, is signed to the Blaugrana for the long haul.
Barca are willing to raise Mascherano’s salary in return for a new commitment to the club, the newspaper adds.
