Bale welcomes Madrid win

Gareth Bale believes Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal could prove vital in this season’s title race.

The Wales international scored the opening goal of the 4-2 win, with Madrid moving top of the table, level on points with Atletico Madrid after they lost to Almeria.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the game, Bale dismissed his personal pleasure as secondary to the team’s success.

“The most important thing is the victory for the team,” the former Tottenham winger said.

“Obviously I’m happy with the goal and to be able to put some pressure on our rivals in the League.

“We’re enjoying playing our football. That’s important.”

The Villarreal fixture was Bale’s return to action having been injured against Granada, with Madrid’s second goal, scored by Karim Benzema, coming from a Bale assist.
