Simeone wants second Copa

Diego Simeone sees no reason why Atletico Madrid shouldn’t go for a second successive Copa del Rey success.

Atleti won the trophy last season and are through to the Round of 16 in this year’s competition, facing Valencia in a second-leg tie on Tuesday evening.

Despite claiming the prize in 2013 Simeone insists the desire to win has not been dulled, stressing it is not in his make-up to dismiss any tournament.

“Since I was a small kid I've always wanted to win, even at table football,” he said at his pre-match Press conference.

“The cup is a competition that has given us a lot of joy and we respect it like we respected the friendlies in Peru and Argentina. We have this characteristic, this desire.

“We only play to win in the best manner.”

The score stands at 1-1 from the first-leg after Raul Garcia gave Atleti the lead, Thibaut Courtois kept the visitors in the tie and Helder Postiga scored a late equaliser.

Atletico have home advantage for the second game but Simeone expects another strong performance from Los Che.

“They have to score. I imagine that they are going to try and play the way they did in Valencia.

“In the last 20 minutes they were very good. It will be a difficult game.”
