‘We’ll make life difficult for Barca’

Diego Costa believes that his Atletico Madrid side can cause Barcelona problems when the two face this evening.

The capital club host the Blaugrana at Vicente Calderon tonight in a top of the table clash. But the striker has insisted that his men will go toe-to-toe with Tata Martino’s men.

“It’s going to be a difficult game against an opponent who have some of the world’s best players. But we are at home and we can make life difficult for them,” he told AS.

The Coach is always looking to do what is best for the team and if he plays me out on the wing, I’ll give my best. The important thing is that we are all united so that we can win. We need to play as a team.

“We think the same as the boss. [Real Madrid and Barcelona] have the edge over us and we just have to battle and try to do as best as we can. We know how complicated it is for us to win the league. We’ll just continue to plough our own furrow as we have been doing all along”.

The goalscorer then commented on Lionel Messi’s return from injury and whether the match with Barca will decide the title.

“Messi is Messi. We all missed him while he was out. It’ll be nice to have him up against us. He’ll be up for it after being out for so long. But we will be making it difficult for him, we have players at the back who are capable of stopping him.

“No [this match isn’t decisive]. There are many games to get through. We are still only at the midway point and it’s important for us to win for what that means but we’ve got a long way to go and nothing has been decided yet.”
