‘Xabi’s contract ‘messy’ for Madrid’

Cristiano Ronaldo has commented on Xabi Alonso’s upcoming contract talks with Real Madrid.

Playmaker Alonso is due to sit down with Madrid officials this week to discuss a renewal on his current agreement after much speculation he might not pen a new deal.

In the meantime, Ronaldo told reporters after Los Blancos’ 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Monday that the issue is a ‘messy’ one for club President Florentino Perez to sort out.

“It’s a messy situation that the President has to deal with. I don’t want to know about it but there is always a solution to everything. Death is the only thing for which there is no solution.

“He’s 32 and there is nothing I can tell him, but I hope he stays with us,” said Ronaldo, who went on to pay tribute to countryman Eusebio who passed away last weekend.

“I thank all the Press for the tributes towards him. We are both Portuguese and Portugal has felt the sympathy of Spain and the rest of the world [over Eusebio’s death].

“Both my goals tonight were for him. He was a lovely person who helped me a lot and was always with the Portuguese national team. It was a very sad day.”
