Ronaldo confirms Ballon d’Or presence

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he will be attending the Ballon d’Or awards in Zurich on January 13.

Speculation in Spain had been that the Portuguese would shun the ceremony after remarks made by FIFA President Sepp Blatter during a university lecture back in October

However, in comments made to reporters in the mixed zone at the Santiago Bernabeu after scoring twice against Celta Vigo in the first official match of 2014, Ronaldo made it clear he would be in Switzerland.

“This is a closed topic and I don’t want to talk about it anymore. All I can say is that I will be going to the ceremony,” he disclosed.

“I don’t know if it’s fair or not that I, [Lionel] Messi or [Franck] Ribery win it. I just try to do my job as always, helping Real Madrid with goals and good performances.

“If I win it then great. If not, life goes on and I’ll carry on doing the same thing.

“I’ve always gone to the awards so I don’t see why I wouldn’t go.

“It’s normal that I’m present. Let’s see what happens.”
