‘Barca never an option for Courtois’

Thibaut Courtois’ father has insisted that a move to Barcelona was ‘never an option’ for his son.

The on loan Atletico Madrid goalkeeper had been heavily linked with a switch to the Blaugrana in the summer.

But the shot-stopper’s dad has claimed that a transfer to Camp Nou was never on the cards, and that talks with parent club Chelsea will commence soon.

“Thibaut is not disappointed that Barca have gone for [Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen,” Thierry Courtois told Het Nieuwsblad.

“They were never an option.

“Thibaut has a contract with Atletico until June 30. There are only two clubs important to him – Atleti and Chelsea.

“There will be talks in the coming days with Chelsea to discuss the future. All they know is that he wants to start next season.”
