Cebolla’s 170-mile horseback ride

Cristian ‘Cebolla’ Rodriguez has ridden 170 miles on horseback to fulfil a promise after Uruguay qualified for the World Cup.

The Atletico Madrid man has spent his Christmas break embarking on the journey with friends and supporters, from his hometown of Juan Laceze to the church of Saint Conus in Florida, Uruguay.

“I am not authorised by my team for horseback riding, but I had to keep this promise,” Cebolla has explained to reporters.

“I promised to San Cono [Saint Conus] a shirt of Uruguay and a pacifier from my newborn daughter and I am just keeping that promise.

“If Uruguay reached the World Cup, I would come on horseback from Brazil to San Cono. So here I am to pay my respects. A promise is a promise.”
