Sandro Rosell has confirmed that Barcelona are not intending to renew Lionel Messi’s contract at the moment, but nor are they planning to sell.
The Argentine’s future is increasingly becoming the point of speculation, as well as the club’s position on a possible new contract.
On from Javier Faus’ declaration earlier in the week that ‘there is no reason’ to hand the 26-year-old a new deal, the club’s President has made clear the situation.
“At the current moment there is no agreement to renew Messi’s contract,” Rosell commented to reporters today.
“Whilst I am President, I believe it will be very difficult, if not impossible for Messi to leave the club.”
Rosell was talking at Barcelona’s presentation of their new partnership with Intel, which will see the company’s logo displayed on the underside of the team’s shirt.
