Aragones: I was misquoted

Luis Aragones insists he was misquoted after stories emerged in midweek announcing he had decided to retire from coaching.

The former Spain boss gave an interview to Vox Populi in which he was quoted as saying he would not be sitting on the bench again.

However, the 75-year-old told Mundo Deportivo that his words must have been misunderstood.

“I didn’t tell anybody I was retiring and did not announce anything. They’ve misinterpreted my words and at no time did I say I was going to retire.”

Although Aragones acknowledged it was getting more difficult to coach at his age, he did not rule out the possibility of a return if a good offer materialised.

“I’ve had two or three years of doing nothing. Time goes by and I haven’t gone back to coaching because none of the offers I had attracted me, but that’s not to say I’ve left the game altogether,” he explained.
