Fran Escriba chose to look at Elche’s 2-2 result at Athletic Bilbao as a point gained rather than two lost.
Elche had moved into a 2-0 lead early in the second half, thanks to goals from David Lambon and Aaron Niguez, only for Markel Susaeta and Aritz Aduriz to rescue a point for Athletic.
“I understand that after being 2-0 up there is hope, but we have to think positively because we have scored a point in a very difficult field,” considered Escriba post-match.
“I do not want a defeatist appraisal as this is a very important point for us.
“We were very good in the first half, finding spaces and playing good counter-attacks. In the second half it was the opposite.
“The important thing is that in a scenario as hard as this, the team has again competed very well. This is one of the fields where you are tested.
“We have to take a positive reading and make better the things that we have failed in.”
