Emery: Room for improvement

Unai Emery saw the worth in Sevilla’s ‘deserved’ win over Freiburg, but says that it should not ‘hide’ aspects to the team that still need work.

Los Nervionenses collected a 2-0 result at home to their Europa League Group H opponents thanks to Diego Perotti’s penalty midway through the second half and Carlos Bacca’s effort right at the end.

“I’m happy with the three points,” began Emery post-match.

“The match analysis is obviously based on a victory, but it should not hide the situations that were not good, but it is positive for those involved and for our confidence.

“In the game there are some positive aspects and others that need improving. In the first half we lacked fluidity.

“The opponent has been tighter than in recent games, but we have also had an impact on what we managed to do.

“Even with the game under control, we should have had more done through the wings or from the second line. We had a few situations.

“In the second half we were more insistent on creating chances. We have managed the first goal through the penalty.

“We had to have patience for our insistence. In the end, the result is deserved, but it cannot hide things that need to improve, but there are also positive aspects towards establishing the team.”
