Solbakken rues mistakes

Stale Solbakken rued Copenhagen’s missed first-half chances and their mistakes that eased Real Madrid to victory on Wednesday.

The Danes were hit with a 4-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria netting twice each.

“Our performance was acceptable until they scored their second goal,” reflected Solbakken post-match.

“After that a huge mistake by us led to them making it 3-0, and finally some poor passing in midfield resulted in their fourth goal.

“Our first half was OK – we had three opportunities, one of which might have decided the match, Nicolai Jorgensen's header against the crossbar.

“Real Madrid score 70 per cent of their goals on the counterattack, and at first we were really good at preventing those.

“Therefore it was a bit sad to see Ronaldo make it 1-0 after a mistake from Johan Wiland, but then again Johan made some important saves in our first match so he should not be blamed.

“However, we might well have been leading at half-time instead of being behind.”
