‘I’m not nervous to face Ronaldo’

Copenhagen goalkeeper Johan Wiland has reflected on the ‘great footballer’ Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is, but says he isn’t nervous for this midweek.

Madrid welcome the Danish outfit to the Spanish capital this Wednesday evening for the second round of matches in the Champions League group stages.

Whilst Los Blancos comfortably won their opening Group B fixture away to Galatasaray, Copenhagen recorded an unlikely 1-1 draw at home to Juventus.

For their goalkeeper, it is partly why the team must take this week’s trip to the Santiago Bernabeu in the right spirit.

“It is a game to go out and enjoy. When you are a kid, you always dream of taking part in days like this,” Wiland told AS this week.

“We need to go out there and give it everything because if we do not then a good day may turn into a bad one.”

The 32-year-old Swede reflected on the prospect this week in facing Ronaldo in the Real Madrid attack.

“He is a great footballer to play against, that’s for sure. He has a unique shot, but it does not make me nervous.

“I’m not doing anything special to try and save his shots. I will do what I always do.

“Everyone will look to play to the same level as against Juve. That game gave us confidence.”
