‘I cannot match Ronaldo alone’

Lars Jacobsen has reflected on the task he and his Copenhagen teammates face in trying to stop Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid tomorrow.

The Danes are in the Spanish capital this Wednesday evening for the second round of group stage games in the Champions League and very much seen as underdogs.

For the player tasked at right-back with trying to stop Ronaldo, there is no greater challenge.

“I do not want to start an argument about who is the best in the world, but to me Cristiano Ronaldo is the most complete,” Jacobsen reflected to Ekstra Bladet today.

“Very rarely do I encounter an attacking player who is taller, faster, stronger, better technically and with headers. There’s nothing that I can do to match him.”

Statistics, though, have Jacobsen as having faced Ronaldo seven times in the past at club and international level and the Portuguese only having scored twice. Even so those that go to Scores to check on the results may well be surprised if they see Ronaldo failed to find the scoresheet.

“That was not only down to me. Nobody can achieve such a task on their own. You need at least two players to stop him, but week after week we see that even that is not enough.”
