Adriano optimistic for fitness

Adriano is hopeful that a new training programme at Barcelona will see him avoid suffering too many injuries.

The versatile player began last season well, but saw things tail off from the turn of the year as a number of muscle-related injuries took hold.

However, the 28-year-old had reflected on his optimism that things will be different this season.

“There are always things and always the intention to try to improve,” mused Adriano to reporters today.

“It was a shame what happened to me last year after Christmas. It prevented me from continuing the work from the first part of the season, which was very good.

“I’m doing work on the physical aspect to strengthen the muscle. This has been since the end of the season.

“I’m doing specific work so as to be able to play 90 minutes.”

Adriano was asked for his take on Tata Martino’s arrival, in specific relation to Gerard Pique’s recent comments that the side were perhaps previously ‘slaves to tiki-taka’.

“The Coach himself has already spoken here. He has not come to change anything, but to rediscover what we have been doing in recent years.

“He has asked us to play a more direct game, in parts. Not so much in taking possession. We can also score goals through being direct.

“It is impossible to renounce the Barca philosophy. The Coach is only furthering some aspects.

“Slaves to tiki-taka? We spent a couple of years playing that way. As was the case against Bayern, the team was very tired.

“It is impossible to give up something that has given us so many titles. We have to maintain that our style of play is with possession of the ball.”
