Musacchio: Facing Madrid special

Mateo Musacchio has reflected on Villarreal’s next opponents in the League, Real Madrid, and what it means for the team to face them.

The Yellow Submarine will host Los Blancos this coming weekend in La Liga, on from returning to the Division after one year in the Segunda.

“The truth is that it is a game that we all want to play in and are looking forward to, we have started towards it now,” defender Musacchio has mused this week.

“These are special games that everyone wants to play in, they are games that you have to be very focused for and organised.

“We have our options and have our way of playing and we will see if we can win and by playing well.

“This is a game that everyone in the world wants to play, there are no injuries, there is nothing that would make you unable to play it. It is a special match and very nice.”

Villarreal head into the fixture level on points with Madrid after a strong start to the season.

“We would have preferred that the League hadn’t have stopped for the internationals, we were doing well, on a roll and as things were going well, we didn’t want to stop.

“It is clear though that if you stop or not that it does not ensure you stay at the same level or not, playing in that same run of form.

“We go into the weekend game on a run of three wins, but we are facing one of the best teams in the world and that is very complicated. We have confidence from our form and that gives us peace of mind to approach the game a little differently. It is true that we are on the same points as Madrid, but three weeks of the season does not represent the whole League.

“For those of us who were in the team when it was relegated, this return is a reward that we have deserved for so much suffering last year. I have never beaten Madrid, but they have lost some games and it suggests that they are not invincible.

“We want to beat them and give joy to our fans and now we have a good chance. This is a different Villarreal, one that can be more direct and can do more damage on the counter-attack.”
