Swansea complete Vazquez deal

Swansea City have completed the signing of Alvaro Vazquez from Getafe, subject to international clearance.

According to the club’s official website, the 22-year-old Spanish Under-21 international [pictured, left] has agreed terms on a season-long loan at the Liberty Stadium with a view to a permanent transfer.

Vazquez’s arrival brings to an end Swansea boss Michael Laudrup’s search for an additional striker to complete his squad, and the former Espanyol man is a player the Dane claims to know well.

“Vazquez is a young player who I know from my time at Espanyol and Getafe,” explained Laudrup.

“He’s a little different to the strikers we have and has the characteristics we’ve been looking for. He will give us a different option.”

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins also commented on the arrival of the Barcelona-born player.

“He is a youngster with plenty of potential. He has already done well out in Spain and looks like the right signing for us at this stage,” said Jenkins.

Vazquez is a product of Espanyol’s youth academy and secured a move to Getafe before the start of last season, although he is understood to have fallen out of favour with boss Luis Garcia at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this term.
