Piatti sidelined for five weeks

Pablo Piatti’s hopes of securing a move out of Valencia have ended with the news that he has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Argentine winger was thought to have a deal to join Getafe lined up, subject to the Madrid side raising funds before today’s deadline in the transfer window.

However, current team Valencia have reported that the 24-year-old’s absence from training today was not in anticipation of a move out, but because he has sustained a hamstring strain to the left leg.

Suffering the injury on Saturday in training, tests have today revealed that Piatti faces a recovery period of five weeks.

Aside from Getafe’s interest, reports in England today suggested that Southampton were also looking at the attack-minded midfielder.

But, the player has told reporters today that, alongside the news confirming his injury, he will be staying put at Mestalla this transfer window.
