United want Ander Herrera, but…

Jose Urrutia has confirmed a bid for Ander Herrera has been received, thought from Manchester United, but that Athletic Bilbao don’t want to sell.

Reports on Friday suggested that the English champions had come in with a €30m offer for the 24-year-old.

However, the Basque Country side’s President has confirmed the belief that they are unwilling to negotiate for the player below his €36m buyout clause.

“We have received an official offer for Ander Herrera, which came last night,” Urrutia told reporters today.

“Whilst we can confirm this, our club is different, based on the feelings of the people. Our goal is not to make money but to be as committed as possible.

“Whoever wants to break their contract must show that they want to leave and that has not been the case with Ander.

“It is not important, they have not reached the level of the buyout clause for Ander. If that occurs and the player wants to leave, we will discuss.

“I have not spoken to the player. We have said that we will not negotiate with Manchester United.

“I will not go into speculation, guessing if Ander Herrera is the only one of interest to European teams.

“We are a great club and play at a ground that makes us feel proud. Athletic are unique and must be the only aspiration.”
