‘Barca have sunk me emotionally’

Kiko Femenia has explained his motivation behind opting to sign for Real Madrid Castilla after being released by Barcelona.

The midfielder was signed by the Catalans from Hercules in 2011 in a deal worth an initial €2m. However, after struggling for involvement beyond the B team, the 22-year-old this week was released from his contract.

On from joining rivals Real Madrid Castilla, the former Spain Under-20 international hit out at La Blaugrana for their treatment of him.

“In theory I was to be an important player and at no time have they shown any interest in me,” Femenia told reporters this week.

“My goal is to return to being the Kiko before I went to Barca. They have sunk me emotionally. My moral has dropped because I came from playing all the time with Hercules and it changed everything.

“Before the arrival of Tata Martino, my agent told me that the club did not want me, before preseason.

“I knew that I would not stay. I had a hard time getting motivated, because it did not matter if I did well or not.

“I arrived with high hopes and I wish I hadn’t, as from the second day it was a big disappointment. From the outside it looked different to behind closed doors.

“Last season I had to play with the first team and they did not call me up even for a cup game or a friendly.

“I have always been a Madrid fan. I’ve always respected Barca, but me and my family have been of Madrid.”
