‘If you create three chances…’

Bernd Schuster was happy with Malaga’s work against Barcelona, but lamented their inability to convert their chances.

The Anchovies lost 1-0 at La Rosaleda to Barca in Sunday’s Week 2 meeting, but only after missing a handful of chances in the second half.

“We have looked for a formula with which to stay competitive through the game,” reflected Schuster afterwards.

“How Barcelona plays is nothing new. It is why they are the best in the world, with a perfect scheme, with everything perfect and with international players.

“I did not play a 4-4-2, we played very much in defence, with a 4-5-1, and it was the only way to get to them and close out the spaces.

“The plan was to get to the end alive and to contest the result. The only thing is that luck was not with us.

“If you have three chances, you have to take one. We have not managed that goal. It is a shame for the efforts made by the team.”
