Marcelo: Little by little…

Marcelo has reflected that Real Madrid struggled in Week 1 against Real Betis, but believes that the team are on the right track.

The Brazilian played the full 90 minutes of Los Blancos’ opening League match of 2013-14, which proved to be a hard-fought 2-1 win against Betis.

“It was very important to start well in La Liga, winning three points,” commented Marcelo post match.

“It was a difficult match, but it was important to win and start with a victory.

“I am very happy to play at the Bernabeu again. Last season was very difficult for me and today we were able to make the fans happy.”

Marcelo set up Madrid’s winner, as his late cross was headed in by summer signing Isco.

“Isco didn’t surprise me, he scored a great goal and he is a player that is going to get better.

“It was a difficult match in the first half. Betis have very quick players and they know how to play. There was a lot of tension and desire to win and play well.

“We didn’t manage to play well, but we did earn the three points to start the championship well. We are on the right track, trying to do what Ancelotti asks of us.

“I’ve been with the team two and a half, three weeks, it’s not very much time, but I am happy to help and little by little we will gain better rhythm for the matches.”
