Xabi Alonso could make an unexpected return for Real Madrid this weekend as they face Real Betis in their opening Liga fixture.
Los Blancos play the Verdiblancos at Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, and according to AS, could do so with the Spain international in midfield.
The news will come as some surprise to fans of the capital club, after the midfielder underwent groin surgery in June.
The 31-year-old was expected to be sidelined for at two months, with several more weeks dedicated to rehabilitation.
However, the former Liverpool man has recovered a lot quicker than was originally stated, and could be available for the game against Pepe Mel’s men.
