Bale receives death threat

Gareth Bale’s proposed move to Real Madrid has taken a nasty turn after it was revealed he has been the subject of a death threat.

A report in the Daily Star says the chilling message came in an anonymous phone call to the Tottenham Hotspur training ground in Enfield late on Sunday afternoon.

Sources close to Bale have confirmed the message was brief and that they are taking it seriously.

It is understood the Welsh international was not present when the call was made but it is believed security measures have now been increased in light of it.

Reports that Bale was ready to boycott training this week after becoming increasingly upset his €105m move to the Spanish capital has been blocked by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy proved wide of the mark, as he turned up on Monday.

However, the player was hopeful his transfer would have been sorted out by now, although it is widely expected he will complete the switch before the start of the new season.
