Expectations high, says Alonso

Xabi Alonso has admitted that ‘expectations are high’ at Real Madrid this season, but believes that Los Blancos are capable of winning titles.

The midfielder has been recovering from groin surgery that left him out of the Confederations Cup, but the 31-year-old is confident that the club can cope with his absence.

“I am slowly getting better,” he told Adidas. “The rest of the lads are happy though, and are training really well.

“We have a good feeling going into this season, but we know expectations will be high.

“We’ve got a good group and I’m sure that the new additions will contribute.

“At a club like Real Madrid you know that every game is important and you have to try and win every game.

“We feel good though – we just have to translate that on to the pitch now.”
