Monchi satisfied with Sevilla, but…

Sevilla’s Monchi is happy with the club’s transfer work so far, but warns that results ultimately matter, as he also comments on Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Los Nervionenses have seen a number of notables comings and goings at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this summer, with their sporting director overseeing 11 sales and just as many purchases so far.

“I am satisfied, but will remain calm because good work or not, the team will be defined by the results,” reflected Monchi to reporters today

“That is the only yardstick with which to assess whether the team is good or bad, if the team is competitive or not.

“As the President has said this week, the squad is 95 per cent complete. If there are no departures for any key players, then there should not be a lot of movement.

“However, there remains a month of the transfer window to go and it would not be logical to say that we are closed to any further additions.

“I always say that whilst the market is open, Sevilla has to be aware of any possible addition. I am particularly pleased to have had the support of the board and President.

“We began planning in late May and we knew that there would be a big change, with many exits and entrances. It was an ambitious change.

“And the board was optimistic, but cautious. We are 95 per cent done, and if there is any chance to improve the squad then we will.”

Rumours have been circulating that Real Madrid are back in for midfielder Kondogbia, with investment group Doyen’s percentage share in the player also seen as complicating matters.

“He will join preseason this Friday. He has a contract with Sevilla for the next four seasons and, today, Sevilla has no formal written offer for the player.

“He is a major player within the team, his progress is still very important and he still has much room to grow.

“I have no fear of an exit, we have seen Navas and Negredo go and we have sought to replace them, but I do not think he will go.”

Alberto Moreno caught the eye at Under-21 level this summer.

“We are working on the renewal and extension of his contract and I cannot give you any further information.”
