Chelsea are reportedly making moves behind the scenes to try and sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.

The Argentine forward indicated on the last day of last season a desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after seven seasons and was initially linked with Juventus.

On from seeing a move to the Bianconeri and then to Arsenal fall through over Madrid’s reported asking price, though, Napoli have confirmed this week that they are in talks for the 25-year-old.

AS report that the Italians may now face competition from Chelsea, who it is believed have made in initial enquiry to Los Blancos over his valuation.

Apparently being quoted €40m, The Blues have seemingly also made contact with the player’s representatives, with AS quoting a source from Higuain’s camp as saying ‘[Chelsea manager Jose] Mourinho wants him there’.

FIFA agent Ernesto Bronzetti earlier today suggested that Napoli would likely be unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the striker.
