Liverpool battle Sevilla for Gameiro

Liverpool are set to battle Sevilla for the services of Paris Saint-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro.

El Desmarque reports that despite the French international having previously admitted his desire for a move to La Liga, Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers will make a fresh push to take the player to Anfield following an unsuccessful attempt in January.

It is understood that the Andalusians have already agreed terms with the 26-year-old and director of football Monchi is in constant contact with the player.

Nonetheless, Los Nervionenses are taking nothing for granted and club President Jose Maria Del Nido, used to these type of situations in the past, is quoted as saying as recently as Monday that Sevilla has “six different options for the forward position”.

While the player himself has suggested a transfer is imminent, new PSG boss Laurent Blanc has not ruled out the possibility of keeping the former Lorient and Strasbourg man at the Parc des Princes.

“There are contacts. We have spoken and Kevin has his own position, but he is the only real centre-forward we currently have in the squad.

“We’ll have to wait and see what the club decides,” said Blanc.
