Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu says that Pep Guardiola tried to convince him to join Bayern Munich this summer.
The Frenchman impressed last season for Los Che, both at left-back and after a conversion midseason to centre-back.
Mathieu was heavily linked with Barcelona this summer, but eventually agreed a contract extension to stay at Mestalla until June 2017.
Today the 29-year-old has revealed that the Blaugrana were not the only ones pushing for his signature.
“Guardiola sent me a message, I said no, I’m staying in Valencia,” explained Mathieu to reporters today.
“Because whilst Bayern are very good, I am thinking about the World Cup and at Valencia I have more opportunities to play.”
