Messi pays out €10m in tax

Lionel Messi has reportedly moved to pay as much as €10m to Spanish tax authorities in the past few days.

The Argentine will have to attend a court as a defendant at an investigation into tax fraud he and his father are alleged to have committed between 2006 and 2009 over the sale of his image rights.

It was also understood that he could face further scrutiny for subsequent tax years 2010, 2011 and 2012, once the current financial year has ended.

However, today La Vanguardia report that the player, who turns 26 today, has paid out €10m through supplementary declaration to the tax authorities, to try and level out any money owed in 2010 and 2011, whilst the deadline for 2012 is not until the end of July.
