Alberto set for Liverpool medical

Luis Alberto is expected at Liverpool today to finalise a move from Sevilla, with the clubs having agreed terms on a transfer.

The young striker, who spent last season on loan with Barcelona B, has been the subject of negotiations with Brendan Rodgers’ side over the past few weeks.

An initial fee of around €8m is now believed to have been agreed, with add-ons and clauses set to push that up to a final total of €10m over time.

The 20-year-old is now scheduled to arrive in England on Friday to undergo a medical examination and then finalise terms of a four-year contract.

Alberto, who netted 11 times for Barca B last season, commented on the move to Diario de Sevilla.

“I am excited, I am going to a club like Liverpool, a new culture, a new language, I have to adapt quickly, but I’m really looking forward to taking this great step,” the forward reflected.

“There are many Spanish in England and they are doing quite well. Seeing that they are all succeeding there motivates me further.

“Sevilla? I have always said that this is the club where I grew up, it is my home. I owe a lot to Sevilla, whilst I am a little hurt that I have not had the opportunity to show my football in the Primera Division.

“It looked like I was returning to Sevilla, but Liverpool have come in and this is a very important step.

“I have had to take a difficult and important decision and I hope I am successful.”
