‘Spain better than Brazil, Argentina’

Diego Lugano has reflected on Spain’s strength, how they exhaust opponents and how it makes them better than Brazil and Argentina.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Malaga, was involved in Uruguay’s 2-1 defeat to La Roja in Sunday night’s Confederations Cup Group B opener.

“Spain are much better than Brazil and Argentina. I have no doubt about that,” Lugano reflected to reporters.

“They have another tactical concept, a possession that no other team has had in the world. That wears you down physically.

“When you get the ball, you are tired, exhausted, you cannot do anything. We were unable to physically cope and Uruguay were not very good.

“We were not on the same level as Spain, they were physically and technically superior.”
