Andres Iniesta enthused at Spain’s result in defeating Uruguay, before admitting that the players started to feel the conditions by the end.

La Roja defeated their Confederations Cup Group B opponents 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Roberto Soldado, before Luis Suarez’ late free-kick provided for some final nerves.

“It is always best to win the first game and we leave with a good feeling,” Iniesta reflected post-match.

“Towards the end we dropped off. It took a great effort and there was high humidity. We lacked a third goal to give us peace of mind.

“Our position now is good. We have two more games, whilst the team has to grow as the tournament progresses.

“Uruguay was a very aggressive team in the best sense of the word.

“They did not let us think and were very good. But we played very well, one and two-touch.”
