Spain defender Martin Montoya says La Rojita want to finish with nine Group B points against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Julen Lopetegui’s men secured a Euro Under-21 Championship semi-final spot against Germany on Sunday, having beaten Russia in their opening fixture, but Montoya insists La Rojita are desperate to finish top in order to play the second-placed team from the other group.
”The most important thing is that we are through to the semi-finals. We are very happy to have qualified and now face the Netherlands, so we will try to top the group. But we are happy and we are going to celebrate tonight.
“The team have been very good and strong in every department. Alvaro [Morata] came on and made the difference with a key goal.
“But I'm very happy with my own performances. The team are helping a lot and I will try to play at the same level in every game.
“We want to finish with nine points, to try and finish first in the group and play the team that comes second in the other group. If the team keep doing things right I think everything will turn out well,” he told reporters.
