Fabregas: Spain want Confederations

Cesc Fabregas has affirmed Spain’s ambition to add the Confederations Cup to their recent haul of titles.

La Roja are currently in the US preparing for mid-June’s trip out to Brazil for the Confederations Cup, a competition that the nation has yet to win.

For their midfielder, motivation to pick up the title is as great as it was in the previous three tournaments that the team have entered and subsequently won.

“We are here with the same ambition as for a World Cup or European Championship,” commented Fabregas to reporters today.

“The feeling of finishing your career having won the European Championship, World Cup and Confederations Cup is very important to us and for the fans even more so.”

Vicente del Bosque has hinted that Spain remain undecided going forward on using the ‘false 9’ tactic, which generally has had Fabregas taking the role when used.

“The Coach will decide, I can play both positions, in midfield or up front. He has that decision and my care is only that I am among the XI.”

Today’s friendly against Haiti could be Iker Casillas’ first football played since January.

“I see him as very well, as always, the most important thing is his attitude and that is always positive.

“I know after spending seven years alongside him that he is a great captain, in the good and bad moments always.”
