Prospective Valencia President Amadeo Salvo says that the club do not have plans outside of Ernesto Valverde renewing next week.
Valverde confirmed today that he has postponed a scheduled meeting with Salvo until after Los Che’s final game of the season next Saturday.
It is a decision that Salvo agrees with and that does not concern him, regarding continued speculation that Valverde may opt to leave in preference for a return to Athletic Bilbao.
“We left it for Sunday or Monday. He has taken an approach that I believe is right and he told me that he thought it was best to wait until the season has ended,” Salvo explained to reporters today.
“He believes coaching the team is good and he does not want any distractions to affect the Sevilla game.
“For four or five days nothing is won, so we have decided to wait.
“His reasoning seemed logical to me and to Valencia it does not change anything to wait until Monday.
“The renewal depends absolutely on Valverde. I am always optimistic and I believe he will say yes, I have no reason to think not.
“He simply believes that it is not convenient to discuss this issue, through the view of not affecting the current situation.
“Our alternative [candidate for the job] is Valverde. The future of Valverde depends on Valverde, if Valverde stays then it is a positive for Valencia, if not, then no Coach, President or player is bigger than the club.
“The fans are, but no-one else is bigger than Valencia.”
