Flamengo have all but ruled out making a move for Ricky Kaka this summer, determining that the Real Madrid player is out of their budget.
The 31-year-old, who in consecutive transfer windows has seen proposed loan moves to former club Milan fall through on financial grounds, is once more expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
However, on a €10m-a-year salary, the Brazilian is currently too expensive for Flamengo, says the club’s executive director.
“His move could excite the fans. But I am cautious and I’m not a braggart,” explained Paulo Pelaipe to ESPN.
“This is our style. A responsible style. A club as large as Flamengo cannot say its doors are closed. We are open to new faces.
“But Flamengo has a transfer policy that is grounded. We are trying to recover financially and we assume that we cannot meet his expenses.”
