Valverde: Weekend could be decisive

Ernesto Valverde believes that Saturday may prove a decisive day in Valencia’s battle with Real Sociedad for the final Champions League qualification spot.

The two sides are currently level on points in fourth and fifth place in the table, with La Real currently holding the advantage of the better head to head record.

For Los Che’s Coach, Saturday’s trip out to Getafe, following by Real’s to Sevilla the same evening, could provide the results most significant to determining final classification this season.

“They are two games that we do not know which team will come out of on top, but this can be a decisive day, for the difficulty of our game and that of La Real’s,” commented Valverde to reporters this week.

“Spirits are good, we are looking to win, we are confident, but there is something I would like to control a little more and that is the subject of euphoria.

“Whilst we are happy, we should not lose focus, we cannot have a setback. We are playing against teams that are playing well, Getafe and [Week 38 opponents] Sevilla are in the same situation, they both want seventh, even if eighth may prove enough to get into Europe.

“It does not depend on us yet. We have made up five points, but we still depend on Real Sociedad.”
