Emery: Everyone must sell

Unai Emery has admitted that Sevilla must sell players in the summer, but that it is a similar situation for most in Spain this summer.

Speculation is that the Coach could lose a number of his first team stars this summer in the club’s aim to service a €50m debt.

“Sevilla now are like all the teams except for Madrid and Barcelona, in that they need to sell,” commented Emery to reporters this week.

“Everyone, from Falcao at Atletico Madrid, to Valencia and Malaga, Sevilla have to conform to the reality that football currently is.

“Jesus Navas? Nobody is thinking of leaving here. All at Sevilla and myself want him to stay for what he represents.

“But you put his name aside and there are big teams interested in him and that means that Sevilla has quality in its ranks

“These rumours cannot be negative to the environment.

“We must have patience. In times of crisis that is when the good comes out. These are the moments that we can grow in.

“Sevilla has to continue, whether in Europe or not. We must convey enthusiasm for the future. And therein lies the magnificent youth section.”

In the present, Sevilla do still have a chance of making Europe, as they sit eighth, five points behind Real Betis in seventh, in what will be a Europa League qualification place thanks to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid having reached in the Copa del Rey Final.

Eighth may also be enough, if Malaga’s appeal over their ban from European competition is rejected.

“In the three remaining games we have to play with intelligence. That is it – intelligence in playing to reach sixth or seventh place, knowing that if Rayo Vallecano or Getafe win and we do not, we are caught.

“When I said that we must go at a snail’s pace it is because of this. And why are we not in a stronger position? We have seen refereeing decisions and errors deprive us of several points.

“We want to go to Europe. Winning all three games will see us achieve that goal. We have to be ambitious.

“At no time are we thinking about the holidays. We are thinking towards Saturday. There is much enthusiasm for the game.”
