Garcia wants final 12 points

Luis Garcia has asked his Getafe players to pick up maximum points in the season run-in as they look to at least keep hold of eighth place.

The Madrid side currently occupy the position that, if Malaga are banned from European competition next year, could be enough for Europa League qualification.

Asked if he is considering the race for Europe, Los Azulones’ Coach was honest.

“Valencia are far away in the table, nine points ahead. The most important thing is that we win. I am fixed on seventh,” commented Garcia this week.

“Eighth, if it is decided, could be enough. If we win in Pamplona, then we do what both Rayo and Sevilla want to do.

“They are tough rivals, but if we win the four games that remain, at a minimum we will stay eighth. Then, if that position that we finish in, it could be that nothing happens. It depends on my players, they have that hunger and ambition.

“If at the end we are eighth then it would be out of pride for being in a competition like the Spanish League. Let’s see how we go, we are two behind Betis, whilst we can also be caught. We must keep adding points.

“If Malaga are top seven and can play in Europe, congratulations to them. If they are punished, it does not depend on us. I believe that things are won on the field of play, but if that happens, we will not say no.”
