Caballero urges full focus

Willy Caballero has commented that Malaga must focus game by game to achieve maximum points in their push for European qualification.

The Anchovies have slipped in recent weeks but are still in with a chance of taking the final Champions League position, sitting level with Valencia and five points adrift of current fourth-place outfit Real Sociedad.

“Our aim is to get off to a strong start and remain focused on coming home with three crucial points,” commented Caballero ahead of his side’s trip to Andalucian rivals Granada this Saturday.

“Even though regaining fourth position isn’t just dependent on us, as we’ve got to take into account other match results, but it’s vital that we win on Saturday, or things will become much more difficult.

“Granada’s situation? We were in that situation a few years ago, and teams fighting relegation play a very determined match.

“We’ve got to ensure that we do the same, and concentrate on playing a very intense game, like we’ve been doing in recent matches.

“It’s crucial that we play with the same intensity as the teams at the bottom of the table.

“We’re working as hard as we can for us, our families and our fans, and for the incredible year we’ve had.”

Malaga’s strength in defence this season has slipped in recent weeks, with heavy defeats to both Real Sociedad and Valencia.

“We’ve worked so hard all year round to make sure we concede the fewest number of goals possible.

“However other teams get to know how we play as the season goes on, so it’s important we remain strong in this sort of situation.

“In the last match, our rival created few goal opportunities, but still managed to score. However luckily we won and gained the three points, which is the most important thing, even though it’s always preferable to maintain a clean sheet.

“I’m absolutely convinced that we’ll reach European qualification again this year. Let’s hope luck is on our side with regards to the other match results, and we can catch up to Real Sociedad on points.

“I know we can do it.”
