Bayern to target Xavi?

Bayern Munich are reportedly intent on disrupting Xavi Hernandez as much as possible during Barcelona’s visit this Tuesday evening.

The Germans play host at the Allianz Arena for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against the Spanish this week.

According to Mundo Deportivo, a leak from the Bayern camp has suggested that tactically, Jupp Heynckes will be focusing defensive pressure from his side on Barca’s No 6, Xavi.

In an approach similar to how they played against Andrea Pirlo and Juventus in the quarter-finals, Bayern are expected, according to this leak, to pressure Xavi whenever he takes possession, to try and cut off his passing options and to generally try and prevent him from moving the ball freely.

This tactic, it is believed, will be employed as a priority even above handling Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.

The Germans are understood to see Barca as capable of reaching their best when Xavi is allowed to play without pressure.
