Manuel Pellegrini has publicly urged Malaga to sort out the uncertain situations surrounding a number of players’ contracts as soon as possible.

A number of first-team names are reaching the final few months of their deals and Pellegrini is aware that the current uncertainty is impinging on hopes of planning the squad for next year.

“The club should be working on next season. It’s an uncomfortable situation of uncertainty, with many players’ contracts ending,” the Coach warned to reporters today.

“We must begin to work for the needs of the team so as to plan well. There is great concern, which is logical, but there is also great commitment.”

Uncertainty also surrounds whether the club’s appeal against a ban from UEFA for financial irregularity will be successful.

“There is an appeal and until the verdict is given we do not know if Malaga will be in Europe or not. The ruling will be very late, it’s been a very long process.

“About what they could say, everyone will have their own views on the subject.

“We think about the sporting aspect, to get to the top of the League and we begin by trying to beat Valencia.”

This Saturday sees the Costa del Sol outfit take the trip up to Mestalla level on points with Los Che and both four points behind Real Sociedad in the current fourth and final Champions League spot.

“When you lose, logically you complicate further trying to get into Europe the following year and this is in relation to our defeat to Real Sociedad recently.

“We have done everything, we have to try and win the next game and that is what we will try to do against Valencia.

“Regardless of the internal problems that they have, Valencia are a great of Spanish football and are obliged at the least to be in the Champions League.

“We are not thinking outside the sporting aspect and hopefully you will see a very good Malaga. I do not know how Valencia’s players will react.

“The Mestalla has always been very demanding of their own team, if we focus on the field, the outside will not have much significance.”
