Iniesta: League is Barca priority

Andres Iniesta has asserted that Barcelona’s priority this season is ensuring that they win the League title to make a five-year cycle ‘extraordinary’.

The Catalans currently hold a 13-point lead over second place Real Madrid in the race and, with seven games to go, are in contention to pick up what would be a fourth Liga title in the last five seasons.

“Everything is difficult, I believe that the feelings are different now to how they were when we began the season, but I have no doubt of the importance that people give to the League,” commented Iniesta to Mundo Deportivo in an interview published today.

“I’ve always said, the League is the most important title for me, because it is the result of work every day, every week and every year.

“The Champions League? Certainly it has its prestige and a different charm.”

“Are we better than last year? Well, last year we went without the League and this year we set it as a goal.

“Combined with the whole of the last five years to win it again, if we reclaim it, and add four League titles in this cycle it will be significant, it is very difficult considering the rivals.

“Madrid are a very powerful team that shows their great ability. So you have to give value to winning back the League after losing it a season ago.

“Then we were at the gates of the League and Champions League and won the other four titles.

“We cannot compare seasons. Each season has its own history, its pros and cons and especially certain situations. At the present there have been difficult moments, times when we have suffered.

“Okay, that happens, but the important thing is that the team has always tried to stand up and today we are in a position that I wish we had at this time every year.”

Iniesta also looked ahead to Barcelona's Champions League semi-final with Bayern Munich and the possibility of meeting Real Madrid in the final.
