‘San Mames always a tough place’

Real Madrid assistant Aitor Karanka has claimed that playing Athletic Bilbao at San Mames will be a tough proposition.

Los Blancos travel to the Basque country to play Marcelo Bielsa's men tomorrow evening, looking for the three points that could take them to within 10 points of Barcelona.

But the Coach has conceded that it will not be an easy match, whilst also commenting on whether Iker Casillas will start tomorrow.

“San Mames is always a difficult place to play,” he told a Press conference. “And, of course, on this occasion it will be the last time we get to play there.

“It is a special stadium

“It is a game where we need to add some points and try to close the gap [on Barcelona]. Athletic Bilbao may be low [in the standings], but we will have to work hard as usual.

“We have four players who are doubtful – Ozil, Arbeloa, Essien and Kaka. We'll see how they are and try to manage everything in the best way we can.

“It is special for any player to play at San Mamea, but especially Iker because he debuted there.

“I cannot tell you if Casillas will play because the staff do not know yet.”

The 39-year-old also gave his reaction to the news that the capital side will face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final.

“Everyone saw the difficulty Galatasaray gave us, even though everyone thought it was going to be easy.

“Now we have four teams of great prestige.

“We have not managed to beat Borussia this year [in the group stages]. If anyone thinks it will be easy, they are wrong.”
