Heynckes: Barca a big challenge

Jupp Heynckes believes that Bayern Munich face a big challenge against Barcelona in the Champions League, but that they should not be afraid.

The newly-crowned Germans will face off against the Spanish champions elect in the last four of the Champions League after today’s draw.

“Barcelona have dominated European football for the past few years and we know that it will be a big challenge for us,” Bayern Coach Heynckes told reporters today.

“The semi-final of the Champions League means that only the best teams remain. Barcelona are a top team, but I’m still confident because we have a top team as well. We don’t need to be afraid.

“We will see two very entertaining football games. Both teams like to play and both teams have a solid defence with a good tactical awareness.”

The Bavarians take the first leg at home on April 23, before travelling out to Spain on May 1.

“I already said before the Juventus game that I don’t think it’s a disadvantage to play the first leg at home.

“Although, the Camp Nou is certainly a special stadium and we can expect a fantastic atmosphere there. I know Spanish football very well because I’ve always been interested in it, even after I left Spain.

“Barcelona aren’t just about Messi. They have plenty of great players like Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Fabregas and Villa. The list goes on, but Messi is surely their standout player.”
