Eric Abidal has thanked his family, friends and the fans of Barcelona after he made his first appearance for the club in over a year.
The French defender made a late cameo in the 5-0 win over Mallorca on Saturday evening, playing for the first time since a liver transplant in February 2012.
And the veteran full-back has admitted that he 'unintentionally might be an example' to follow.
“It was a special moment for me to return after more than a year without playing,” he told Canal Plus.
“I want to thank my family, my friends, my fans and all the people I've met in hospital, people who are struggling like I did.
“I also want to thank my cousin, because without him I would not be here today. This is a unique moment for me.
“Unintentionally I might be an example. If I can help people, then I certainly will.”
